If you are trying to attract as much traffic as possible to your website, Search marketing is an essential tool. Google is one of the biggest search engines in the UK, but have you ever been greeted with a fabulously decorated Google logo when you are searching the web? These elaborate designs have been named Google Doodles. The search engine giants modify and adapt the original Google logo on special occasions, such as Christmas, New Year, Easter and Halloween. Google doodles also make an appearance on the birthdays of famous figures from the past including Andy Warhol, Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, John Lennon and Michael Jackson as well as to mark major events like the Olympic Games.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin designed the first ever Google doodle back in 1998 in honour of the Burning Man. Following the interest of the first doodle, contractors were brought in to design the special logos. However in 2000, the intern Dennis Hwang was asked to design a logo for Bastille Day and he has been designing the Google doodles ever since.

On Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, Google ran one of its most interactive Doodles in honour of Sci-Fi writer Jules Verne’s 183rd birthday. Users were able to pull on a virtual lever which allowed them to get a Nautilus submarine’s view undersea of everything from divers to treasure to sea creatures, including a coral formation in the shape of the logo. Moving on from this, Google displayed the first video doodle commemorating Charlie Chaplin’s 122nd birthday on April 15th 2011. This doodle was a black and white YouTube video that, when clicked upon, started playing before redirecting to the usual Google search featuring the doodle’s special occasion.
