Digital State Marketing: Our top 5 Google Doodle’s of 2012 (Part One)

At The Digital State Marketing, we are huge fans of the fabulous Google doodles. Search marketing is an essential tool for online businesses to thrive in terms of search traffic and with Google being the main search engine in the UK; most people are familiar with the ever-changing logo designs. The search engine giants have been modifying and adapting their original Google logo on special occasions since 1998. Google have showcased a great number of fantastic Google Doodles in 2012 however we here at The Digital State Marketing have our favourites from the past twelve months.

Starting from fifth place, a favourite with the staff at DSM is the Halloween Google Doodle that was featured, not surprisingly, on October 31st 2012.The idea was to bring an interactive trick-or-treating experience to Google’s homepage with users bringing the doodle to life by clicking on the spooky doors to unleash the ghosts and ghouls lurking behind. Behind the doors the inhabitants cleverly doubled up to form the letters of the Google logo.

Coming in fourth place was another interactive Google doodle symbolising the 100th birthday of Alan Turing. Whilst a lot of people won’t be familiar with the name, Alan actually invented a type of theoretical machine called a Turing Machine and this special doodle showed an actual live action Turing Machine. We appreciate that a lot of time, research and testing went into designing this elaborate logo design and it was a fantastic and thoughtful symbol to mark his centennial!

One of the momentous occasions of 2012 was the London 2012 Olympic Games. This was a huge event in the UK last year and so we had to include one of the 17 brilliant commemorative doodles into our list of favourites for the year. In particular, one that especially caught our eyes was the London 2012 slalom canoe Google doodle. The aim was to guide a paddler in a yellow canoe down a water course and through 10 downstream gates marked with green striped poles.

Here are some of our top Google doodles of 2012 however keep an eye out for our next blog where we will discuss our top two.
